Whatever the Reason - Señor's School is the Unique, Spectacular and FUN Way to
LEARN TO COOK PAELLA!
Paella is traditionally a community activity. Friends and family gather under the Spanish sky to ‘assist’ in the preparation of the paella, chopping ingredients, offering advice, arguing over tradition.
The meal itself is the culmination of a social event that centers around the paella pan and has been part of Spanish culture for centuries. There are myths and legends around the story of paella, a ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ way to do everything. We’d like to share the fun and spectacle with you. And we’d like you to share it with others.
Señor’s School of Paella offers two ways for you to immerse yourself in Spanish Culture.
Señor Paella’s School Circle
For smaller groups, of 8+, we gather round the paella pan to the sounds of Spain for an Introduction that will take us through the history, traditions and culture of our favourite dish. Chef will explain recipes and ingredients and introduce you to the best equipment.
Our demonstration allows plenty of opportunity for questions and chef will probably loosen up and give away some secrets!
Of course, once we tuck into the paella itself, you’ll have lots more questions and a chance to discuss the whole process. Just as the Spanish do, you’ll be able to argue a point or two and suggest favourite ingredients. And you can also decide if you want to take advantage of the special 10% school day discount offered on equipment.
When the school bell rings at the end of the session (about 2 hours), you’ll leave with the perfect paella recipe and a certificate of attendance.
Señor Paella’s School Circle takes place at your venue. Señor Paella supplies all equipment and ingredients, including tableware and cold drinks.

Señor Paella’s School Sports
Our Paella Sports Days are a unique and fun way to bring your group together at your chosen venue and give them a completely new challenge. We’re very proud to offer this activity as the first of its kind in Australia and expect it to be very popular. We suggest you book early, particularly for end of year parties!
Let your team of 15+ get hands on!
Sports Day begins with an introduction to the culture and tradition of Paella. We’ll have a look at the equipment, the ingredients and learn about the importance of authenticity. But pay attention – there will be questions!
Teams of 4/5 will be allocated their station and chef will take them through the intricacies of authentic paella. Each team will cook under the direction of chef and maybe there’ll be a few ‘discussions’ about who’s doing it right. After all, it wouldn’t be paella if there wasn’t an argument about something.
If you wish, you may add our ‘Gypsy Dancing’ option, in which case 2 or 3 teams will learn the art of gypsy dancing with Sharmara rather than paella – a great opportunity for the exhibitionists, who will then provide the entertainment before the crowning of the paella champions!
Once each team’s paella is cooked, chef will perform the ‘tasting’ and teams will then be able to consume their wares. Don’t worry if your team doesn’t follow instruction well, there’ll be plenty in other pans to share with the naughty students so nobody will go hungry!
Whilst teams eat and discuss their paella techniques, chef will hand out the quiz papers so that we can begin the final challenge of the day. Quiz results will be combined with the tasting to decide on the ‘Paella Champions.’
